A beautiful and intact torquise faience ushabti, Late Period, ca. 664 to 500 BC.

A mold-formed faience ushabti standing in mummiform with fused legs, holding implements, and with 8 rows of sharp hieroglyphs wrapping around the legs. The face presents with almond eyes, a prominent nose, and a petite chin, all beneath the lappets of the tripartite wig. Covered in beautiful torquise glaze The figure with fine surfaces and of a good style with an appealing facial expression.

Very precise and decorative carving and painting of a deity seated on a tiger-cat, inside a high throne with dragon, all in black, red, gold and laquer, Qing dynasty, late 19th.-early 20th. century.

Size: c31-30,5 cm. tall and 19,5 cm. wide.

Condition: Near Extremely fine, some fine wear to laquer and gilt, very sound and heavy wood, chip to his beard on left side othervise completely intact!

Rare head of a man with caricatural features. The man shows a bulged and furrowed forehead, deeply set beady eyes, a flattish nose with marked nostril, and fleshy lips. Strands of hair are brushed back from the forehead and from the temples.
The head fits into the Hellenistic grotesque tradition and may be related to the New Greek comedy.

This figure of a guardian foo dog is of a natural rich brown unglazed ceramic with white glazed eyes, eyebrows, teeth, claws, and a line of spots on the spine. It is very well-modeled by hand with a highly expressive face and jaws. The chocolate-colored body is also offset by a black glazed mane and tail.
