These 16 bone pendants were found together in Smythe County, Virginia on a Hopewell site. They are all identical in form. They are all drilled from the top at an angle. Average size is 1". They are made from squirrel shoulder blades. They have excellent patina and are all very solid. This is a very rare and unusual assemblage. They are ex Tom Davis. The name of the finder goes to the buyer.

An original natural pigment pottery figure of a standing court lady wearing a short-sleeved tunic over a robe with long sleeves. Her interesting looped hairdo is parted into two bunches that rest atop the sides of her head. The figure has most of the original pigments, some of which have worn off over the years.Very difficult to find one that has not been restored. 19th Century Japanese Netsuke depicting a Shishi on a Stand. Wonderful detail, rich patina. Unsigned. It measures 0.54 inches (1.4cm), and 1.40 inches (3.6cm).

This is Sashiko used for a martial artist of the Taisho era. This is a natural indigo plant, and Kinari--colored lining cotton is put on the cotton of a dyed face. And it is done Sashiko. As for this, thick cotton cloth is performed Sashiko of by the white cotton thread of the W thread. Therefore it is very thick. This does not have a stain and damage. Size 82cm x 90cm (32.2 "x 35.4").

A heavy six-sided porcelain deep bowl decorated on the outside with famille rose enamels depicting ladies and boys in a garden landscape. The base bears the six character seal mark ( painted in iron red) of the Tongzhi emperor (1862-1874). Condition: there are enamel losses to the turquoise glazed interior: no losses to the famille rose enamels: no chips or cracks to the porcelain body and no restoration. 21 cm (8.5 inches) across; 9 cm (3.6 inches) high.

The handle is loosely suggested in its token form suggesting its ethereal nature and use in the art of Ikebana flower arranging. This tubular shaped holder is partially hollowed on one end in order to receive a peacock feather decoration. The jade is a white tone with white mottling and a very slight hint of green when held to the light. It has a soft polish and even wear from use. Good condition.

Slightly distorted shoe shaped - Kutsugata tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay during the Edo Period (1603-1868). The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part.

In the style of Oribe-Kuro bowls the bowl was covered with a black glaze which was not achieved by hikidashi (pulling the red hot bowl from the kiln) but by adding cobalt the the iron oxide glaze.

A fine and rare incense burner for the scholar’s table of carved and polished black stone. Rectangular in shape, a pair of open-work handles in the form of scrolls on four short legs. The two main sides carved with dragons in archaic style. China, mid-Qing, 18th cent. W 9 cm, D 4.5 cm, H 5 cm. Condition: Super (minor wear due to age, but very good patina all-over).

This scroll contains a sutra written as [寿至蓬莱不老僊], pronounced in Japanese as “Jyu-Ita-Hōrai-Furō-Sen.” Originating from Chinese, the characters “蓬莱” refer to the mythical land of “Penglai,” home to the immortals. According to legend the trees that grow here cure all disease; there are rice bowls and flasks of wine that never go empty; and its great castles are built entirely out of gold and silver.

I replaced the tie which secured the front of the seat to the metal saddle tree...the original cord was literally falling apart...Limited research indicates this saddle was from Rajastan India.

This is a Japanese Nishijin obi made in exceptionally high quality. The obi is old but almost in perfect condition. It is beautiful to look at even without using a magnifying glass. The soft colors have an earth tone and the use of the dyed threads tells us that this is a superior work of Kyoto Nishijin.
