This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Double-Sided Kyogen (Japanese Theater) character masks depicting Okina on one side and Okame on the reverse, with mother-of-pearl inlays. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu...

Rare gilt bronze gourd, of oval shape, with an embossed decor representing Bodhisattva Padmapani, standing, holding a vase in his left hand and a lotus on his right hand. This is an extremely rare cloisonne masterpiece. It was created by one of the great Meiji artists, Ogasawara Shuzo. It is also a very large piece for cloisonne, at 14 3/4 inches wide and 7 tall. It probably weighs over 10 lbs. The entire dragon is raised relief. This is an eye catching piece that truly belongs in a Museum. Condition is excellent.

Rather unusual late 18th to early 19th century Japanese bronze temple decoration fixture of a tennin - a female buddhist angel - as it flies playing a Shu - Japanese musical instrument from a flute group used in Shinto ceremony and consisting of bamboo reeds forming a circular wind chamber. Wonderful design, beautiful flow of her billowing scarves, gilded highlights, great patina. Very well cast, pleasantly heavy, peg on the back for fixing it to a temple or pedestal wall. Decorated with a Kano school asymmetric composition of a prancing Tiger and Bamboo probably having a common source to similar compositions found on Kakiemon porcelain. The mirror is signed Fujiwara.
