1900's Chinese Silk Embroidery "Shou" Calligraphy Fan Case with Peking Glass Beads

The overall length is 17.9 inches (45.5 cm) long. The case is 12.4 inches (31.5 cm) long by 2.36 inches (6 cm) wide. The beads are 0.87 inch (2.2 cm) long by 0.5 inch (1.29 cm) wide. It is 32.8 gram.

It has frayed silk, loose threads, tears at the inner lining, and wears. One of the bead has a chip (as seen in the photos).

Imari ware porcelain soba choko with underglaze cobalt blue pattern of "azami" (thistle.) Mid-late Edo Period (1600-1868.) H.6cm (2.3") Dia.7cm (2.6"). A playful rendering of a thistle adorns both sides of this soba choko, with bands around the bottom of the cup. Some minor glaze crazing and cracks, but overall fine condition. The metal bowl of this traditional old bronze Chinese spoon is heavily patinated from extensive use and was probably used for heating maybe opium.

Hardwood Nuo mask, big and heavy, representing an unidentified character with a very serene expression. Coat of red lacquering on plaster, long gone around mouth and nose (the red color is generally used to indicate courage, loyalty and devotion).
Very good condition (a few little chips on the back along the edge), very nice inside patina; 26x17 cms. Beginning of 19th C, Hunan. (see bibliography)

These antique iron stirrups probably belonged to a low level horse soldier of the Chinese army during the Qing dynasty. They are well patinated.

Rare and slender Silver/Paktong Opium Pipe, QING Dynasty. The damper/bowl is in the shape of a poppy/opium bulb and is held by a hand. This hand holding the bulb/damper has a very distinct double fish engraved on it's base which in Feng Shui is the symbol of wealth, abundance and attracting good luck (see photograph #4). Japanese early Meiji period deep wood Merchant chest, or box with three(3) deep graduated size drawers with black iron handles, 11" high, 16 1/4" deep from front to back, 8" wide, retains light honey color original finish. Dovetail joint around the back corners, wood shrinkage on top and side, shows the wears and tears, all original condition.

19th century glass ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in ball shape with black body and numerous multicolored flower shaped inlays . Beautiful surface, very pleasant patina. Diameter 5/8 inches.

Large and heavily potted porcelain body, decorated in an nice pale cobalt blue in Shunzui style and with medallions showing flying birds and wild gees, birds sitting on branches, sailboats and Fujiyama mountain. Japan, nineteenth century. Diameter: 42 cm. H : 33 cm. Condition: Broken at one area to the rim. This broken area would be absolutely suitable to ennoble the piece with a most beautiful Kintsugi repair ( Gold lacquer repair, please see the images ).

A properly dressed Chinese woman would wear a pair of leggings to cover her lower legs from the bottom of her skirt to the top of her lotus shoes. The leggings would be tied into place with a hand woven sash made specifically for that purpose. These lotus shoe accessories are now rare and very hard to find. See my listing TC236 and ZTC233. This pair of leggings are of very fine red silk damask weave fabric with ribbon and silk embroidered trim at the cuffs.

Asian low table. Mother of pearl inlay on maroon and black laquer, brass bound edges. Very minor restauration to chipped legs. 475 mm square top, 80mm high.
