Pair of late Qing dynasty Guangxu period circular form lidded seal paste boxes, each decorated in two underglaze blue relief dragons chasing a flaming pearl on a white porcelain ground. A pair of antique Japanese candlesticks dating to the Meiji period 1868-1911. The stands are made of copper and measure about 17 1/2" tall x 5 1/2" in diameter, across the weighted bottoms. The stands have been engraved with an assortment of family mons, both on the bases, and up the sticks. The condition is very good. There are no dents or broken pieces, and a dark patina has developed over the years. The asking price includes shipment within the USA.
19th century wooden netsuke of a theatrical mask, traces of painted mustache identifies the character as Chujo. Made in saishiki technique - the wood is covered with gesso, which in turn is painted in bright colors. A lot of wear to the surface, but still has good presence. Height 1 9/16 inches.

This is a finely carved 19th Century rectangular Manju netsuke depicting the Two Sennin kanzan and Jittoku, who are standing and holding a large ball.
The two sennin are brothers, and are Usually Represented as juveniles with the faces of old age. Both are Said to have lived in a kitchen, as feeble-minded men speaking in unknown language (Karl Schwartz, "Netsuke Subjects").

Shoki is the Japanese styling of the Chinese spirit Chung Kui who protects households from malevolent demons. In this example the gifted carver shows Shoki studying closely, an off stage, mischievous oni whilst carefully hiding his Chinese sword close to his body.

An Unusual Japanese Porcelain Kensui, late 18th Century.
A kensui is a pot in which the water is poured after rinsing a chawan during the tea ceremony. The enamelled design is unusual especially the bold use of iron-red. The base has a variation of the spiral fuku mark, used in the 1780’s. It is uncommon to find ceramics associated with the tea ceremony that can be safely dated to before the 19th century.

Many Chinese would "grind" a day's supply of ink in advance and store the liquid ink in a metal "inkbox". According to the calligraphy on the top of this inkbox, it was a gift in the year of the goat, to a medical inspector upon completion of his 3rd year of work in Yuncheng city, Shanxi province. The inkbox is 3 inches in diameter and has an dried ink in the bottom and a built in inkstone inside the lid.

A Japanese porcelain steep-sided dish depicting a traditional zashiki room or perhaps a temple interior. The plants seen through the windows are banana and cycad, both common in warmer climates as experienced in Kyushu or Okinawa. Arita 1730 - 1750. Mid-late 1800s, Chinese seed coral hat finial made with hundreds of small coral beads that were wired and woven to form the finial over a brass base. This removable finial still has its brass screw-pin. Measures: Bead only 1 1/8" diameter x 1 1/4"high. As shown with screw 1 1/2" high.
This early 20th century Japanese carved bone and tagua statue is 6 ¼” high, 2” wide (the base is 2 5/8” wide) and 1 ¾” thick. It depicts a man who appears to be a merchant. His left hand carries a pouch; his right hand is raised up and holds an unknown subject. His body was carved from bone and his head was carved from tagua (vegetable ivory). Aside from a small repair on the collar, it is in good condition.
