An authentic example of a shape that one only rarely encounters, described by Rawson as "scoop-shaped" in her authoritative book on Chinese jade. A similar example in a darker stone is illustrated at page 115 (illustration 1:1). That piece is described as originating with the "Chahai" culture (Liaoning) and is dated to 4000-3500BC. Antique Japanese shinto mirror, tenka ichi. This mirror has a tassle tied through a turtle. The central motif is of a turtle over bamboo meeting the beaks of two cranes. The birds and turtle are on a beach with pine trees and bamboo bushes. This mirror would have been placed along with three others at the entrance to a shrine for those entering to see their reflection as they entered. Made of bronze, Edo period (c1800).
It measures 4 5/8" by 1/2" deep.

A rare antique Pre-Columbian Jama-Coaque 300 B.C. - 400 A.D. ceramic amulet in the form of a standing nude male figure with an erect phallus. These types of amulets were associated with the male sex's power and fertility. The object has a hole at the temple for suspension.

This late 19th century Chinese bamboo brush holder (Bitong) is 12 inches tall and 5 inches at its widest part. It was carved in high relief and lacquered. The top part of the cylinder presents the story of the seven immortals of the bamboo grove. Four immortals are looking at a scroll picture; two are playing ¡°Go¡± and one is watching them play. The bottom half of the cylinder depicts five elders gathering in a garden surrounded by pine trees...

Imari ware porcelain soba choko (soba noodle dipping cups) from the mid-Edo Period (1600-1868.) H.5.5cm(2.2") Dia.7cm(2.6".) This pair features underglaze cobalt blue pattern with two of the three friends of winter; pine and plum (the other being bamboo,) front and back of each cup. Abbreviated brushstrokes give these cups an aesthetic of simple beauty. Rare Chinese Warring States Covered Pottery Stem Jar (475 - 221 BC)

This attractively-shaped pottery vessel with its flared foot and pear-shaped body was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is "heavily-potted", made from a fine-grained grey pottery and has a smooth burnished surface. The surface colour varies a little in places from pale to dark grey due to uneven conditions during firing...

A nahi-ji and maki-e decorated wood lacquered lidded sake pourer (Hisage). The interior is in red lacquer. It is equipped of a sheath for the spout. Tokugawa and Daigo mons (emblems) are represented on the lid, the extremity of the sheath, the handle and the two sides of the pourer.

This is an exceptional bronze dagger or lance point from ancient Syria, possibly the Luristan culture. It measures 199mm and weighs 68 grams. It has a small tang, gently sloping blade edge, and thick midrib. It has a nice malachite patina and shows no signs of damage or repair.

An oval English porcelain sugar bowl with the lid and body decorated with blue and magenta bell flowers growing out of gilt plants.
