Large, rectangular brush pot made from a dark bamboo wood. Each of its four sides has a large panel, carved skilfully with beautiful scenery. Adult and children figures are carved performing similar tasks, such as fishing over a bridge, with grass huts, rugged rock formations, large exotic trees bearing fruit, and beautiful architecture becoming the main focus of each panel. Each side is separated by a thin corner panel, carved with two serpents or dragons with vine-like bodies...

Antique Chinese hardwood table carved with incredible handcarved flowering plum blossoms details on branches that crawl up the table legs. The table top is inlaid with a piece of stunning white grey marble.

It is 4.4 inches (11.2 cm) long by 7 inches (18 cm) wide. It is 11.27 gram.

DESCRIPTION: This Chinese scholar’s brush is a simple brush crafted from a mottled bamboo handle, very thick bristles, and a shaped, dark horn ferrule. The brush, dating from the early 20th Century, is in very good condition and would be perfect for display in a medium to smaller sized brush pot. DIMENSIONS: 9 5/8” long (24.5 cm).

Late Meiji Japanese good size ceramic suiteki (water dropper for diluting ink used in painting and calligraphy) that can also serve as a brushrest, modeled as a large and a small pine cones growing together. Clever design, holes on top of cones for filling and dispensing water, very nice depiction of cone texture, brown glaze with gold enamel over it, in excellent condition. Marked with potter’s stamp on the bottom, appears to read SHUNZAN, but I am not entirely sure...

Perfect example of "wabi-cha", the style of Japanese tea ceremony that emphasizes simplicity. Shigaraki is known as one of the 6 great pottery regions of Japan. With a signed tomobako.

A large root-wood sculpture made of a single piece of burnished and lacquered cypress or perhaps rosewood. Dramatic details. All in all very decorative piece for the scholar’s studio. China, early 20th cent. H 55 cm, W 40 cm. Condition: Excellent.

Heavy, cream colored stoneware oil plate (aburazara) shaped as a lotus leaf with curled up, irregular edge. Surface on ‘inside’ structured with cloth, decorated with geometric figures in iron brown glaze and covered with feldspar and typical Oribe green glaze.

2 old small chips and some frittings on rim, consistent with age and use

This cast metal figure of a farm girl is an early 20th century (late Meiji) product. It depicts a bare footed farm girl carrying a large basket on her shoulder. It is 11 ¼” high and 4 1/8” in diameter at the base. The tip of the small stick she holds in her left hand is broken off. Aside from this, it is in very good condition.

Antique Chinese bronze gu vase. A bronze wine vessel (gu), late Shang dynasty, 12th-11th century BC, with two pieces that separate in the middle, trumpet neck, and archaic taotie style designs along the body. Beautiful patina with crack in rim. Most likely produced in the Ming Dynasty. Size: 11.5" height, 6.25" diameter

Small iron lantern of rectangular format stretched in height with its base. The paper comes from a book page of classical Japanese literature. This writing is developed from the 8th century and is borrowed from the Chinese writing.
