The original natural oil finish has been buffed to a clear beautiful shine over many decades of buffing and cleaning, and is so much more attractive than the waxy chemical finishes on today's furniture. 22 x 14 x 5 inches, 56 x 35.5 x 12.5 cm.
Big "Tunkou" of Kaishan, he who "Opens the mountain", clears it; God of mountains with a terrifying face (horns, fangs) who leads the procession during the ceremony organised for the clearing of a new field or building of a new rice field; his fierce face is intended to repulse the bad spirits (and the dangerous wild animals?).

Miyako-jofu woman's kimono with fine kasuri which is hand-woven of choma (ramie) and dyed with Ryukyu-ai. Wefts and warps are hand plied. Miyako-jofu has been woven in Miyako Island in Okinawa since 14th century. It was called "Satsuma-jofu" in Edo period as the island belonged to Satsuma feudal domain. It was imposed as tax. It is time-consuming process of thread making, thread plying, weaving as matching wefts and warps kasuri pattern...
A rare and finely formed dildo/adult sex toy made of semi-transparent, hollowed horn. Below the finely formed head are a series of raised grooves for added stimulation. Two holes on either side of the lower stem for attaching. Japan, Edo, ca. 1800–25. L 15 cm. Condition: Fair, few cracks and holes due to age and wear(check photos)
Hardwood Nuo mask, big and heavy, representing an unidentified character with a very serene expression. Coat of red lacquering on plaster, long gone around mouth and nose (the red color is generally used to indicate courage, loyalty and devotion).
Very good condition (a few little chips on the back along the edge), very nice inside patina; 26x17 cms. Beginning of 19th C, Hunan. (see bibliography)

A small Chinese archaic style bronze "hu" with hanging handle and lid. Qing Dynasty or earlier. The "hu" is in very good condition. Height to top of the lid: approx 4-1/2".

Antique Chinese, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), large, blue, and white, porcelain charger or bowl, Swatow Zhangzhou ware.
The exterior is hand painted in cobalt blue with abstract swirling designs on crackled ground and heavily glazed and adorned in the center with a happiness symbol within an unglazed stacking ring. The stacking ring prevents the plate from sticking to the other plate during the firing in the kiln...

This elegant vase is fully glazed, all-over, with a beautiful whitish glaze.

A set of 5 mid-size dishes in the shape of half opened folding fans. On the bottom of each a decoration of two wheels, floating in a river in iron brown underneath thick cream-colored opaque glaze, and the right-side corner covered in thick green glaze typical for Oribe. The inside structured through the impression of a muslin-like cloth.
The back is engraved to indicate the spokes of the fan...
Antique Japanese chawan (tea bowl) made in the Iga Ueno - Shigaraki area. Beautifully sculpted and decorated with natural glazes which have melted to wonderful green and brown crackled drips.
