Antique Japanese 4 panel screen with rooster and hen. This unusual screen has gold lacquered open lattice work backed with the original sheer white silk. A beautiful scene of a blossoming plum tree, yellow daisies and chickens makes up the carved and painted foreground. The bottom portion of each panel is pierced carved and painted with scenes of rocks and cymbidium orchids.

Cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay dating to the late Momoyama Period. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured. Just the foot ring and its immediate surrounding was left unglazed...

A very fine Japanese gilt blue and white charger decorated with phoenixes, dragons, peonies and other motifs. There is a six characters Chinese Chenghua mark inside the foot-rim, but I would date it to 18th or 19th century. The charger is in excellent condition besides some faded gilt and one kiln fault spot(see photo #2); no cracks or chips. Diameter: 15-7/8".

Fine Tall Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Rider

This fine and elegant pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. The horse stands alert with its head turned a little to its left. The riders sits leaning slightly forward with arms outstretched.

This is quite large example with a height of 39 cm (15.25 inches)...
