An excellent shakudo tsuba inlaid with a "thousand flowers" decoration in gold, silver and sentoku. The technique is particular, the tsuba is first cast in shakudo with all the flowers in relief, then chiseled. Then each flower is covered with a thick sheet of metal, gold, silver or sentoku, this sheet is hammered on the sides of the flowers as one would border a bed sheet. Very unusual and large 19th century Japanese lacquer ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) of ball shape with 2 flattened sides. The ojime is carved out of a block of lacquer material formed of different color layers as the leftover liquid lacquer was discarded by a lacquer artist, and then solidified. Very clever use of material, very rich play of colors, in excellent condition, beautiful patina. Height 1 inch.

A small Chinese porcelain bowl with the popular "nine peaches" decoration. The peach is the symbol for long life, timelessness, immortality and springtime. Also illustrated on the bowl is a fungus, plum blossoms, and bats, all of which are symbols wishing you a long life. The bat flying around is also a wish for happiness. Rare Chinese porcelain underglaze red and blue vase; depicts a deer under pine trees with bats; mid-17th century; possibly Ming Period; minor surface abrasions; good condition; email for more pictures

Circa 1900, Chinese export enamel trough planter with floral scenes in rock garden on a custom wood stand. The glaze on the exterior ground is a lovely pale turquoise, while the interior is a darker contrasting turquoise. The rim features fret key pattern in a vibrant translucent royal blue and the metal trim is silver which has darkened over time. In excellent condition, the planter measures 8" long, 5.5" wide, and 2.5" high. On stand measures just under 3.5".

Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's storage chest). Made with keyaki (zelkova elm) wood frame and front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood sides and top. 2 large sliding panels open to a large compartment. Below this are 4 drawers of various sizes. Iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls. Deep reddish wiped lacquer finish.

Magnificent lacquered basket with domed lid from the Karen ethnic group Northeast Thailand. The walls are constructed of strips of bamboo with rattan bindings and wooden base. The lid has one layer of woven bamboo with a tihck layer of natural lacquer while the lower half has a classic double layered wall with another coating of lacquer inside, which would have made this piece virtually water proof. Minor layers of lacquer loss in the interior, otherwise super fine condition...

These offering stands were used in Korea on a family altar to elevate offering to worship ones ancestors. These stands were owned by poor people and farmers, and they are good examples of Korean folk art. The largest stand is about 6" in diameter, followed by one at 5 1/2" and the other at 4 3/4". All of them show spur marks and grit where they were stacked for firing in a large kiln. They are all in good condition with no damage. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.
