18th century Chinese toggle (similar in function to netsuke) carved out of boxwood in a shape of a monkey on a base, its face almost human, its mouth open. Very beautifully worn charming piece, patina consistent with age. Could have been used as a small brush rest. Very nice fingering piece, as well as an object for a scholar’s desk. Height 1 9/16 inches.

This is a Japanese antique Edo Period of habutae-silk kaga-noren of Mount Fuji and the seaside landscape(miho no matubara). High quality hand-yuzen dyed Kaga Noren. With indigo and gray hand-drawn dyeing, it expresses an elegant and beautiful landscape. This kaga-noren is a very rare design and I think it was made by a special order by a wealthy merchant.
