American market porcelain may seem staidly reserved in comparison to other Chinese export wares...
Inrô with four lacquer compartments representing eagles: eight on one side, seven on the other, one on the upper side called ten; sometimes posed on a rocky promontory in takamaki-e and kirigane lacquer, sometimes in flight near the sea. Bamboo branches. Bottom in fundame and hiramaki-e lacquer. Interior in nashi-ji lacquer.
The eagle motif is relatively rare in Japanese iconography. Most of its representations are found on older lacquerware.
Ojime in red lacquer...
Pair of Japanese antique hibachis. Round in form and carved to appear as if made of woven basketry. Spilling over the rims and made to look as though bursting forth from holes in the baskets are plump clusters of grapes, vines and leaves. The "basket" portion of the hibachis is lacquered a deep red while vines and leaves are lacquer a dark green. The grapes a lacquered a deep red. There are metal inserts for coals and ashes...
A beautiful 19th/20th C. Chinese Famille Rose porcelain Longevity Buddha. It is customary, in Chinese tradition, to present the Longevity Buddha as a birthday gift for the elderlies. Signed and in excellent condition. H: 10-1/2"

An early Northern Song celadon dish, decorated with carved incised of flower pattern to interior, underside is plain. Unglazed base firing to orange russet tone. Condition is perfect. Diameter: 17.5cm found at Sulawesi.
A blue and white of Ming dynasty Jindezhen Mingyao/Private kiln type dish, decorated with chrysanthemum scrolls. Condition with three minor flake chips visible on enlargement 2, further in good condition with no crack and free from restoration. Diameter: 19cm.

Qingbai type conical tea-bowl with flower shaped rim and decorated with simple incised to interior cavatto. A character mark to base. Song/Yuan Dynasty in very good condition, except glaze slight degraded. Diameter: 12,8 cm.
Black lacquered double door zushi portable shrine opening to a well-carved and polychrome painted image of Jizo Bodhisattva, sitting in repose on a lotus throne, his hand holding a staff with sacred rings, framed by a gilt metal mandorla. Accompanied by two attendants in a rocky grotto setting. Size:14.5"W closed, 29"W open x 11.5" D x 20"H. Edo Period, circa pre 1850s.
A Rose mandarin /Canton Famille rose ecuelle, soup bowl and cover, with double strapped handles and gilt finial, c 1820-40.
Height: 4" / 10 cm, diam. of cover: 6 1/4" / 16 cm.
Condition: a restoration above each handle, hairlines, some rubbing to the gilding and rim frits to the lid (cf pics).

Statue of Buddha sitting on a double lotus throne, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra". At the center front and back of the throne, a small niche contains a relief representing what seems to be a Green Tara in regal repose posture. Inscription at the bottom of the front of the throne. Bronze with green and reddish patina. Laos, early 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 6 3/16" (15,7 cm). Very good condition.
Chinese Qing dynasty ink and color on paper vertical framed painting of three children flying a kite outdoors. The unsigned painting appears to date from the 19th century. The frame size is 52” x 18” (painting: 42 1/2” x 11 1/4"). There is old damage, wear, and soiling visible. Framed in Tucson in the 1990s in a deep, substantial handmade black lacquer moulding. The painting is framed with glass. Purchased in the 1990s from an old Arizona collection.
Early 20th century Chinese horn cylindrical seal with very elegantly and crisply carved Chinese characters on the base and traces of red seal paste in the grooves. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Beautiful dark dense horn, natural imperfections in the material. Mellow patina, overall in very good condition. Very nice object for scholar’s table. Height 2 3/16 inches, diameter 9/16 inches.
A Japanese iron war fan, or 'Gunbai'. These were accessories used on the battlefield to fan in heat but also as lethal, close quarter defensive accessories. A rare item not commonly encountered on the market. Black lacquered and with gold lacquer kanji quoting Sun Tzu (fifth century Chinese political and war strategist)...
Antique Japanese cotton yogi, sleeping kimono for a woman. Thickly padded and decorated with a paste resist and red family crest. More paste resist characters on the front collar. Lined with a dark indigo-dyed cotton.
