Chinese Northern Dynasties Painted Pottery Horse & Rider

This attractive pottery model of a cloaked and hooded rider was made in the 6th Century during either the Eastern Wei Dynasty (AD 534 - 550) or the following Northern Qi Dynasty (AD 550 - 577). Pottery horses from this period have a distinct style different to the more common and later Tang Dynasty equivalents...

Antique Chinese bronze fu dog incenser. He is sculpted with great detailing, his head points up with mouth open so that smoke billows from it. The head opens by a hinge to place incense within, and the interior shows old natural patina.

Museum quality, because there was a bowl with a quite similar decoration in the Percival David Foundation which is now in the collection of the British Museum. This is a classical form Song dynasty small longquan or celadon dish with moulded appliqué twin fish in the centre and an everted flatten rim. The dish is glazed with an uneven sea green or aquamarine glaze with crazing instead of the standard green colour.

There is no repair or restoration. Minor abrasion on the base and a small stone pits covered with the glaze near the cavetto which does not affect the aesthetic of the dish (picture 2 at 12 o’clock)...

19th century wooden netsuke of a hunter with a flintlock rifle trapped by an enormous scrotum of a badger. Decent size 19th century netsuke carved as a theatrical mask of Buaku and used for demonic roles such as Kaminari, Emma-O or any nameless demon or scary devil. Ancient Italic Bronze Quatrefoil Fibula

The fibula consists of two bronze wires whose ends are twisted against each other to form tightly rolled spirals. Both double spiral wires are forged into short flat sheets in the middle and riveted together with an additional
long strip of sheet metal. Another circular decorative plate is riveted to the front. This plate has a punched dot
pattern around the edge and intersecting chains of dots in the two bars...

This is an authentic nephrite bead from the Warring States period decorated on all four sides with a meandering design, bracketed by inverted "t" shapes. It measures some 3-1/4" in length and is perforated it's entire length, suitable for suspension or wearing. Some calcification is noted.

Japanese hand-forged iron tsuba, used to protect a swordsman's hand from sliding up the blade during use as well as to provide balance. The openwork tsuba depicting two sages, their robes accented in gilt, one sage with a face of silver and the other with a face of copper. The front image is signed 'Soheishi Nyudo Soten' , the other side reads 'Goshu Hikone ju' (resides in Goshu-current Shiga prefecture).

18th/19th century small votive Indian bronze sculpture of Nandi - the vehicle of Shiva, or sometimes considered to be a form of Shiva himself. It rests in its usual position wearing rich trappings in front of a Shiva lingam altar, and there is a pile of offerings by his raised foot. Very neat casting and detailing, great patina, compressed dust in crevices and traces of sandalwood paste used during worship. Very good devotional object, wonderful feel of age to the piece. Antique Mughal Indian Islamic cast bronze water pipe (Huqqa) base North India or Deccan, 17th-18th century.

It has a drop-shaped form that tapers to a bulbous point. The octagonal beveled sides have an aperture on top and the shoulder, and the top is embellished with a band of concentric fluted patterns.
