This incense-burner was cast with Mongolian script encircling body and has two handles with lion masks. It is raised on a slightly flaring footring and a slightly convex base showing wear and an old original surface with a mottled brown patina. The Bombay form rises to end in a flattened rim displaying evidence of long, continued use. The grayish-bronze interior shows its use as an incense burner. An old crack is visible to the head of one handle.

A rare Eastern Han (206 BC- 219 AD) jar with incised decoration about the collar area. All the features one wants to see are found on this rare artifact, such as root impressions, worm tracks, and traces of calcified (petrified) roots. This jar is not the typical molded type made for burial, but was actually used in real life as utilitarian ware for everyday use. The jar is in excellent condition and measures 6.5" high x 7" diameter.

A pair of antique, 19th century, Islamic Turkish Ottoman stirrups of characteristic form. They are made of brass and have a curved base plate flanked by flat sides that rise to an arch and finish with a loop. 19th century Japanese iron mae-kanagu (tobacco pouch clasp fitting) depicting a sparrow serving sake from a bottle to an old man with a sake cup. The topic represented is Shitakiri Suzume, or the story of a tongue cut sparrow - see H. Joly LEGEND IN JAPANESE ART, p. 496. Iron is notoriously difficult to work with. Rare English Regency Tea Chest in rosewood, of sarcophagus form with a paneled lid opening to a fitted interior retaining a pair of Anglo-Irish cut glass tea caddies and sugar bowl and original felt lining under the lid, circa 1830.

Cut crystal containers were very expensive at this time, almost as expensive as silver. It is very unusual for tea chests to retain their original crystal fittings.
