Namban style chest with a semi-cylindrical lid made of black lacquered wood (urushi) with gold lacquer (maki-e) and inlaid with mother-of-pearl (raden).
Decorated with three main bands of floral motifs, middle surrounded by vertical bands of mother-of-pearl inlaid lozenges and framed by the hanashippô pattern (overlapping circles forming petals).

A very rare Chinese veneer huanghuali cabinet with the original marble inserts. The back of the cabinet still has the original fiber coating that was used during the Ming and early Ching Dynasties. This cabinet was most likely made during the transitional period from Ming to Ching. Age: Early 18th Century Size: H.189cm W. 126cm D. 63cm Condition: All original. An extremely rare matching set of a drum table and five matching stools made of Jichi wood or "Chicken Wing Wood" with a very large one piece burl wood top on the table and stools with a bamboo design. Carved entirely of wood, his gorgeous robes are built up with pigments in a technique called 'moriage'. A very rare Giant Size Dry Lacquer Buddha Head on a custom made base (can be removed), Shan State, Burma, 19th Century. Very nice smooth Patina, some inconsequential wear, especially to individual hair curls, but excellent overall condition as shown. The Ushnisha or Flame on the top of the head is removable and most likely from a later date as is typical of such venerated Buddha images. Guaranteed 19th Century.
