Shiro Satsuma (White Satsuma) ware sake decanter shaped in the form of a turtle. In Japanese, the word asobi may be translated as playful where the tail is stylized in the shape of a handle and the lid to the decanter is using one of the hexagonal piece of the back of the turtle. The decanter comes with a box. The underside of the lid contains an inscription: (translation) During the 17th year of Meiji (1884) , the piece was a gift from Mr. Habu and has been treasured since. Composite panel of antique embroideries from the Ottoman Empire, made into a rectangular shaped woman’s prayer cloth indicating qibla, the direction of prayer. The basic fabrics are different plain weaves, embroidered with silk and metal wrapped threads, composed and sewn together in the Ottoman city of Salonika or Kavala. This Chinese pinafore style garment would have been worn by a small girl child of the Dong ethnic minority in Shui Kou. Fabric is handwoven from cotton fiber, hand stitched with intricate decorative applique work and hand woven snowflake pattern ribbon accents the border. No rips, no tears, and no holes...but this piece is old and has been worn and is a bit "dirty".... and still has its original ties. It is 14 inches wide and 21 inches long...great ethnographic textile for framing.

This shallow form bowl is decorated in a famille rose palette with vibrant overglaze enamels in the standard pattern known in the West as pseudo tobacco leaf. The form and paste of the dish is that of the Qianlong Period. There are some small nicks to the rim from use and a tiny rim nick infill. A small oval glaze crack shows on the front rim with a tiny associated restored chip. Otherwise, it is in good condition with only minor wear to the enamels...

Edo Period, early 1700s

This small, double-doored black lacquered shrine contains a carved and gilded sandalwood image of a Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus throne. The gilding is original and is worn from age and use. There are also some losses to the lotus leaves. The two doors are attached by small gilt bronze hinges and a brnze ring is affixed to the top for attachment to a garment belt. Acquired in Kyoto, Japan in 1973.

This miniature vase has a whitish / buff stoneware body that is covered in a clear glaze that has areas of discoloration from pale gray to an attractive yellowish tone, likely a result from long-term burial. The cylindrical Linguam carved in deep relief with eight horizontal bands of Linguams. The piece topped by a blossoming lotus flower. This splendid, rare, sandstone piece is 80 cms (2.7 Ft) on its mount. The Khmer Linguam dates back to Angkor Baphuon period, 11th Century. Acquired by the Gallery in late 2012, previously acquired in early 30's and thence by descent. Estimated value: USD 5000 / 7000

Description: This is a Liao dynasty waterpot in the form of a lotus bud. It is gobular in shaped with a narrow mouth rim and a bulbous body.

Dimension: the dimension of the water bud waterpot height is 10.9cm and the width is 12.1cm.

Description: A small and elegant ewer dated to the Song dynasty. It is finely potted and the glazing is right to the bottom of the ewer. It has a recessed footrim.

Dimension. The dimension of the ewer, the height is 15.1cm and the width is 14.5cm.

Condition: The condition is generaly good. There is no repair, restoration, crack or chip. Minor glaze crazing. Item sold as is.

This Japanese ceremonial Tenmoku style chawan (tea bowl) is a late Meiji period product. It is 5 ½” in diameter at the top, the foot is 1 ½” in diameter and 2” high. It has a very dark brown with white textured spots on the exterior. The base is not glazed and there is a swirl mark in the center. The interior of the chawan is richly colored black, dark brown, light brown and grayish blue. It is in excellent condition.
