An unusual Arita enamelled wall-vase, kakehana, circa 1750. The seed-shaped hollow body is moulded with trailing vines supporting a dragonfly. The painter has used two different greens, aubergine, yellow and black. The unglazed back is pierced for suspension. It is probable that this kakehana was made for the home market.

Chinese hardstone lidded vase carved with scrolling dragon head handles and freely moving rings. The lid has a pointed finial with natural black pebble coloration. The foot of the container is slightly flared and recessed. The natural pink and grey tones of the stone give the appearance of heavenly clouds, which are traditional motifs associated with dragons.

A Fine Chinese Carved Blue Overlay Glass Snuff Bottle, 1800~1850. The bottle of opaque white glass with snow-like inclusions, cased in blue glass. The blue glass is carved away to leave the Eight Horses of Mu Wang in a continuous landscape. The carving is very fine indeed. The stopper is hardstone with an ivory collar and spoon.

A bottle of the same design from perhaps the same workshop was sold at Christie’s “The Art of China: Online Winter Sale” Dec. 2017. Lot 36...
