This is an extremely fine Japanese Cloisonne vase with gold wire decorations.It measures just 3 1/2 inches tall so it is much finer and more exquisite in person. It is not signed. The fine workmanship on this piece was most likely done by Hayashi Kodenji as only an elite few could have ever created such a piece. The enamel colors and character of the bird also match Hayashi's work. Condition is excellent.
This old wood netsuke figure is 3 inches tall and 1 inch wide. It depicts a long haired, bearded sage (or hermit) holding a staff. It is not signed and is in great condition.
Sculpted from soft white volcanic tuff from central Java of a Majaphit royal princess. Her coiffure is pulled back and topped with a lotus tiara, and she wears a pair of foliated looped earrings. The rendering of her delicate features is very reminiscent to classical Indian sculptures.
The Majaphit empire is the last Indianized kingdom in Indonesia. Based in eastern Java, it existed between the 13th and 16th centuries...
The rare shape of this bowl is so to say a forerunner of a shape which was common during the Yuan Dynasty. In his book "Chinese blue and white Porcelain" Duncan Macintosh calls the shape of such a bowl: a "bowl in traditional "shufu" shape."( page 18 ).

The chest's top and sides are decorated with a gorgeous mother of pearl inlay in the shape of a kiri leaf, from the Tokugawa family. This handle is in cast bronze with 2 welded sides and gilded. The carving is of the best quality and the sculptur is powerful, announcing an excellent artist. It must have been part of a very large censer or vase in certainly imperial cloisonné enamel that is somewhere.Certainly Kienlong period or earlier.
