Hard porcelain dish, cobalt blue underglaze decoration. Completely hand painted. No printed or decaled design. The openings are cut empirically with a very simple tool. The drawing is very well executed by an excellent painter, especially the dragon. There are tiny scales, one of which is large but very superficial. Enlarged photos show them to us. Fine old, three paneled, supplementary weft embroidered wedding blanket from the Zhuang ethnic group Guizhou Province China. Handspun and handwoven cotton thread foundation and silk for the embroidery. The central area is dominated by the “well” “#” pattern, while the border is a combination of the “well” pattern inside a “wanzi” swastika meander. There are few small faded areas but no holes or tears. W: 104cm/40in and L: 140cm/56in.

This rare antique bag was made and used by the Yi ethnic minority... It was made from hand corded plant fiber,tied into a series of knots to form a shallow sack. Originally there would have been a fabric shoulder strap which would have been tied around the loops on either side of the top of the bag... The front of the bag is decorated with a traditional silver ornament depicting a butterfly. The bag is in tact: no holes, or rips but is dirty from use and age....

Lovely Qing Dynasty pendant of a monkey on a leaf, “staring at the moon”, carved from carnelian. An unusually fat piece with a rich dark color rarely seen in Chinese carnelian. Large original Antique Japanese large low-fire ceramic mask of the Lucky God, Daikoku. His laughing face is round and painted with charming detail to his beards and eye brows. He is wearing his traditional hat that has been hand painted with great detail. One of the Lucky Gods, Diakoku is the God of Good Fortune as well as a god of the kitchen. It is possible that this mask may have hung on the wall in a temple's kitchen...

An antique Japanese Satsuma Jar that measures about 18" tall x 13" in diameter. The jar has the "thousand faces" design, skillfully executed in gold and raised moriage enamels. On one side is Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess, and on the other I believe it is the Immortal, Lu Tung-pin, who has the power to slay dragons and evil. Additionally there are eighteen Rakan, all of which have the same face. Also there is a dragon flying beneath the Kannon...

Japanese Satsuma Earthenware Vase, Ca. 1920, early Taisho period, "Hotoda" signed, 6 1/2" high, 4 3/4" wide include handles, fine detailed decoration of Dragon and Rankans between nice fine gold background. The condition is good.

Chinese Famille Jaune Ginger Jar, 8 1/4" high, 8 1/2"-widest area, 3 3/4" diameter-top rim, 7" diameter-bottom rim, made during late 1800's to early part of 1900's, thick overglaze Polychrome design on the entire body with Peony flowers and vines with Chinese Character in four(4) circle windows. Star crack on the bottom which stained over the years and scratch on the glaze on the raised decorated surface.

Old wooden stand acquired from a US expat estate in 1987, this was made between 1950 and 1980. The legs are inserted. Minor natural “check” in the top, and this piece is sort of shaped like Australia (no extra charge). 14cm/5.5in x 10cm/4cm and 4cm/1.6in.

Rather unusual late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese seal carved out of a natural boulder. The stone is of military green color, softer than jade and appears to be magmatic in nature - see the folds of its outside produced by cooling of the rock. This adorable antique Japanese Sumida Gawa vase has turned iron-red body, neck covered with a glaze of various shades of grey, green and black dripping down the shoulder and into the mouth. With children carrying a Buddhist drum and seated on the side of the vase. This piece is signed on a glazed plaque on side.

Condition: The vase is in good overall condition. As the photos show there is minor old damage; one of child's hand is missing and there is a crack on the body...

Late 19th to early 20th century Japanese ceramic brush pot made in raku technique with rich multicolored glaze and an unglazed sector with stylized painting of autumn grasses. Beautifully made, awesome colors produced by raku process. Signed in gold lacquer with 2 characters on the back reading GERAKU. There appear to be characters incised into the body on the bottom, but I am not entirely sure. Unusual piece, pleasant to handle. Height 5 inches, maximum diameter at the top 4 5/8 inches.

DESCRIPTION: This Chinese scholar’s brush is a simple brush crafted from a mottled bamboo handle, very thick bristles, and a shaped, dark horn ferrule. The brush, dating from the early 20th Century, is in very good condition and would be perfect for display in a medium to smaller sized brush pot. DIMENSIONS: 9 5/8” long (24.5 cm).

Early People’s Republic of China molded, green glass vase (emulating celadon jade) and in the style of a Han Dynasty Hu, circa 1960 to 1970. Although millions of decorative items were produced during this period very little has survived to this day, especially anything made of glass. This piece is “as new” condition, with the original label, no damage whatsoever. Today it is easier to find original Han Hu then one of these. H: 28cm/11in and D: 20cm/7.9in.

A small Satsuma cup and saucer, probably Taisho period, c 1920. Well composed and painted decoration of a flower shrub in colours and gilt, on a finely crackle-glazed ground in pearly off-white. Antique Japanese ceramic bizen ware sculpture of Ebisu and Daikoku, two of the most popular of the Lucky Gods. Diakoku, who is usually pictured standing on top of bales of rice, instead stands on top of a large ball. He is shown carrying a lucky mallet (Uchide no Kozuchi) and a bag of treasure which is thrown over his shoulder. He is the protector of agriculture, farmers, and rice merchants. Standing to his left on the side of the large ball is Ebisu, the protector of fish, fisheries, seafood...

Suspended from a small leather belt loop, this old Mongolian pipe pouch has trekked a long way. This ethnographic relic was clearly hand-made, with a simple closure of leather thongs tied into a traditional knot, and a few beads add a decorative element. This early 20th century Chinese ceramic carved white brush holder is 5 ¼” high and 3 ¾” in diameter. It depicts a tiger standing on top of mountain surround by far away mountains, pine trees and bamboo. There are peony and small chrysanthemums beneath the tiger and a lucky bat is flying on the top.
