Made in the late years of the Kangxi period, this plate illustrates a scene from the Romance of the Western Chamber, depicting a courtship moment between Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying. The blue is of a lighter, more wistful shade.

Early 1700s

The interior of this dish is decorated with a pair of phoenix birds in flight. The underside has four “ruyi” fungus in underglaze blue and an underglaze blue single character mark is painted on the center of the base. It is raised on a low footring, the base of which is unglazed exposing the dense, white porcelain body. There are some small pinhole glaze pricks with some darkening that is typical of older porcelain wares...

Chinese Export Porcelain Cafe Au Lait and Blue and White Saucer, Dish, Ca. 1770-1800, 4 1/4" diameter, 7/8" high, underglaze Blue decoration of the river and pagoda scenery inside three(3) separate Cartouches continued with floral branches, large Peony flower in the center round ring. Underneath the top is glazed with cafe Au Lait, coffee color, and white glaze finish inside bottom rim. The condition is good.

A porcelain Kendi with powderblue glaze and decorations in gold, mounted with a silver lid and spout. China, Qianlong (1736-1795). H. 27 cm. Condition: wear to the gold decoration and wear to the silver (see pictures). The silver spout may have had a small lid, that was connected with a chain to the main lid of the Kendi. Note: Many Kendis were exported to Indonesia, it is very well possible that the silver mounts were added there. Provenance: Amsterdam private collection.

Face mask of almost flat shape, with rectangular protruding forehead, long triangular nose, pierced-through rectangular eyes and mouth. Wood, with fine dark-brown patina. Animal hair has been affixed with black resin, to represent eyebrows, moustache and beard. Old rope still attached to the mask. Himalayas, 19th century, probably even earlier.
