18th century Japanese iron sword kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt) with inlaid brass dragonfly. Crisp detailed work with fine veining on its wings, wonderful feel of age. Very clever and neat piece. Length 1.46 inches.

Very fine Bronze Buddha subduing Mara, Shan State, Burma, 18/19th Century, very nice brown-gold patina, on high-stepped throne, which tapers off toward the top and is a noteworthy characteristic of Shan artists, very good condition, size: H. 15.5cm x W. 7.5cm x D. 5cm, rare size/find.

Beautiful antique Japanese bronze vases with raised design of dragons on one side and phoenixes on the other, each vase inscribed, label states that these vases were presented by Members of Congress of Fukuoka Prefecture, Meiji Period (1868-1912). Size: 11 1/2" high x 6" wide.

A large earthenware wine jar,Hu, with green lead glaze much of which is covered with a silvery iridescence(caused by long burial and exposure to moisture). On the shoulder is a low relief moulded frieze depicting a number of animals and a figure on horseback in what is possibly a hunting scene. Very attractive bronze seated Disciple/Monk holding alms bowl in his left hand, which rests on his leg and gracefully helping himself with his right hand. This monk is the disciple Mahakasyapa who was particularly close to Buddha. In the tradition of the Zen-masters, Kassapa was the first monk to receive from the Buddha "without word or writing" the unspeakable highest truth of the Dharma.
