This early 20th century Chinese natural gourd cricket cage is 4 ¼ inches high and 3 inches on the widest part. Beautiful exotic wood case with cylinder music box that has bells, drums and castanets. This rural Mongolian bucket is made from lemon wood and was used daily to draw water from the local village well. Truely an ethnographic relic with original iron fittings, and evidence of constant use and old repairs. It is both large and heavy. The diameter of the bucket is 18" and the bucket alone is 14" deep, add another 11" for the handle and iron toggle fitting. The weight is approx 15 lbs. Originally made about 250 yrs ago and probably used constantly for a couple of centuries.

A metal box which contains an ink stone to grind ink sticks for writing. The box has been cast in light colored brass and has a copper bottom. The ink stone is secured in the lid with a spring frame. The top of the box shows a beautifully engraved lotus flower with leafs and a bud. Antique Chinese famille rose porcelain vase with a scene of a pair of birds over a field of lotus. A lotus leaf bends under the weight of the birds as they look through the field of lotus blossoms. An unusual Arita enamelled wall-vase, kakehana, circa 1750. The seed-shaped hollow body is moulded with trailing vines supporting a dragonfly. The painter has used two different greens, aubergine, yellow and black. The unglazed back is pierced for suspension. It is probable that this kakehana was made for the home market.

Approximately 16.7cm long. Perfect condition with only a little wear to the enamels from use.
