Edo Period, early 1700s

This small, double-doored black lacquered shrine contains a carved and gilded sandalwood image of a Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus throne. The gilding is original and is worn from age and use. There are also some losses to the lotus leaves. The two doors are attached by small gilt bronze hinges and a brnze ring is affixed to the top for attachment to a garment belt. Acquired in Kyoto, Japan in 1973.

This Japanese ceremonial Tenmoku style chawan (tea bowl) is a late Meiji period product. It is 5 ½” in diameter at the top, the foot is 1 ½” in diameter and 2” high. It has a very dark brown with white textured spots on the exterior. The base is not glazed and there is a swirl mark in the center. The interior of the chawan is richly colored black, dark brown, light brown and grayish blue. It is in excellent condition.

These late 19th century Chinese Famille Verte ceramic bowls are 1 7/8” high and 5” in diameter. There are two green dragons chasing flame surrounded red globes on the outside the bowls. Tibetan Himalayan Match Striker, Coral and Turquoise natural stones set in the embossed and high relief decorated hard Silver and Brass borders on Yak Skin Leather, 3 5/8" high without ring, 6" wide steel striker. This antique copper reposse gau houses a picture instead of a clay tsa tsa which was common for a family gau. when the family could afford to do so, the picture would be replaced by a clay tsatsa.
