Beautiful Kyoto Nishijin silk obi, decorated with flowers, ribbons and mirrors. Gold is genuine and used in two different methods; strips of gilt paper (machine cut) and gold leaf wrapped around the silk threads. Some gold leaf are natually missing from the strips of paper - this did not show up in most photos (see enlargement photo). This obi looks older (clean) than shown in the photos. Circa 1920-1940. Description:

An archaic bone Xi was from Warring States periods.
By enduring old patina, the ancient decorative piece was still in sound quality when old carving lines were revealed clearly.
It was also used as an instrument to loose the knotting rope.
An original hole was in the middle for fastening.

This fine antique large betel nut container from Burma is painted with a traditional ornate "yun" incised lacquer design called “yok-thei”. There are tiny dancers swirling through an intricate background of vine vegetation. High sided cylindrical betel boxes called "kun-it" were used to store betel leaves and other ingredients. The deep lid fits snugly to keep the contents fresh.

Unfortunately, this container is missing the original tray insert...

A finely decorated porcelain box painted with very rich and vibrant famille rose enamels. This item was probably made in China during the early 19th century (circa 1810-1830) either late in the Jiaqing reign or early in the reign of the Daoguang emperor. The theme on this fukusa (Japanese gift cover) is “Kin ki Sho ga”, four accomplishments of noblemen. For a man to be well balanced and eventually become a good leader, practicing (and become good at) of “Kin ki Sho ga” was encouraged during their leisure time; ‘Kin’ (Jp. Koto, string music instrument), ‘ki’ (jp. ‘Go’, Chinese chess), ‘sho’ (calligraphy) and ‘ga’ (painting). This started in China and was brought back to Japan by traveling monks studying Buddhism...

Description:
An iron kettle was in decent look.
In compressed form, the kettle was with limited decoration except on the surface of the cover. That made it in a simple and then casual mood.
Well preserved without any defects or restorations, the ewer was easy for use of pouring hot water for making tea.
Of course from the size, the quantity of water was ideally for two people over a chatting time.

A very fine Japanese gilt blue and white charger decorated with phoenixes, dragons, peonies and other motifs. There is a six characters Chinese Chenghua mark inside the foot-rim, but I would date it to 18th or 19th century. The charger is in excellent condition besides some faded gilt and one kiln fault spot(see photo #2); no cracks or chips. Diameter: 15-7/8".

This antique cast iron 2 piece censer retains much of its original red paint. The inside bottom of the censor bowl is somewhat pitted from use. The chop marks are unrecogizable. The piece is 10 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches high.

Two pieces of very nice and symbolic shard from the Ming dynasty. The first shard to the left, has a coin design in the centre of the bowl with the lotus lappet surrounding it. The second shard, to the right, shows a lotus flower in full bloom. The lotus is considered a scared flower to the buddhist - a symbol of purity and perfection. In general it is a symbol of summer and fruitfullness...

A nice piece of qingpai bowl shard. It has a high foot rim with recess base and a U-shaped body with an everted mouth rim. The body is lightly incised with slanted lines. A character, which is not very clear is painted in the centre of the foot rim.

This is a fine old Japanese Porcelain vase from a rare Artist. The vase is very heavy and it stands 12 inches tall. The vase is decorated in underglaze blues and reds much like some of the Makuzu Kozan Pieces. There is an unknown impressed signature on the bottom. Maybe someone in Japan will recognize the signature of this fine studio artist. The vase was once a lamp and the hole has been nicely restored.

This rare Edo period antique Japanese round box has 3 tiers, lid and plate. There is a column of small Gosan kiri family crests down one side and another column of small family crests on the other side. The inside is of each piece is red orange lacquer. The box fits into the rim of a plate which was use for serving. The gold lacquer paintings designs are all very fine.

This is a small shard bowl with the Tibetan lanca charcters or scripts. In the center of the bowl, it has a single large lanca character. All around the cavetto and on the outside of the bowl, it is covered all round with the same script lanca characters. At the back of the recess foot rim, it shows an embalm of a mace with ribbons. This dates the bowl to the emperor Kangxi reign, Qing Dynasty. The high quality of the glaze and porcelain used suggest that this is possibly an official or "guan ya...

A very nice blue and white cylindrical vase depicting the Hundred Antiques objects. The drawing is a general collection of emblematic form with representation of the eight treasures, vessels, flowers and some decorative designs. The fabric is thick, silver brocade that appears to be taken from a Japanese woman's old obi from late Edo period. The liner is cotton. During the Edo period (1602-1868), there was a custom that the family of a deceased woman would donate her favorite kimono to the temple; some beautiful temple cloths were created from those wonderful fabrics. This is a small and beautiful qingpai ewer of very mild greenish hue. It stands on a short recessed base and then everted upward to a bulbous body, with a sligltly sloping shoulder and the a short slanted neck towards a bowl like mouth rim.
