This early 20th century Chinese carved wood statue is 5" tall, 6 1/8" wide and 3 1/4" in depth. The statue presents the legendary Chinese character Liu Hai. This character is an eternally young boy who is always accompanied by a three legged toad. The statue presents a smiling Liu Hai seated comfortably on a rock with a whisk and straw hat on his back and the three legged toad resting on his right foot. Aside from a minor repair on his left toe, it is in great condition.

It is beautifully potted in an ovid melon form with in a transparent icy green glaze, with the rounded side tapering to a short foot. The qingpai glazing which is uneven, fall short of the short foot-rim with a recessed base.

There are no repairs or restorations. There is some minor firing fault, degradation, glaze crazing and minor losses as shown in all the photograps. Minor scattered oxidise spot as shown in all the photographs...

Description: An ivory brushrest was in a fine look.
Depicting the mountain view and a monk-like figure which were in characteristic simple form of early Qing periods, the ivory piece was well rendered by affluent carving skills.
The enduring old and warm patina was preserved on the surface when darken adhesives were kept in the crevices due to age.
It was kept in a perfect condition and was fitted with a later made wood stand.

A rare early 18th Century Chinese porcelain coffee can decorated with "famille rose" enamels. This item was made for export to Europe during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1736-1735). A rare pair of qianjiang dishes painted and signed by Zhang Ziying (also known as Zhang Yun) who was associated with the imperial kiln during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875 - 1908). Both carry poems which translate "fortune and luck for life). Condition - three 5cm hairlines to rim of first dish (see enlargement 6 for two); base crack ( see enlargement 9) and two light 3cm hairlines to second dish.
